Windham, ME is a charming small town with a long history. European activity in the area began in 1734, when the Massachusetts General Court granted the land to a group of colonists from Marblehead, MA; however, settlement would not begin for another 3 years. The town was first named New Marblehead and was incorporated as Windham in 1762.
Windham played its part in the history of the young nation. As many as thirteen residents of the town were present in Valley Forge as part of the Continental Army. After the war, trade and commerce came to the town thanks to canals, railroads, and eventual highways.
Today, Windham is a relatively small town that still boasts excellent quality of living. There are many parks and recreational facilities throughout the community. Residents are particularly avid when it comes to outdoor activities, regularly enjoying fishing, biking, hiking, bird-watching, and much more.
